Aston Villa want Chelsea midfielder on loan with a view to permanent deal

Aston Villa are targeting a move for Chelsea midfielder Charlie Colkett, according to talkSPORT.

The Championship side want to sign the 22-year-old on loan with a view to a permanent deal as Dean Smith looks to add more options to his squad.

Villa will have to face interest from Swedish side Östersunds to land him this month. The Allsvenskan outfit want to bring another English player over to Scandinavia this January and see Colkett as an ideal signing.

Colkett started out as a youngster at Charlton Athletic before moving to Chelsea at the age of 11. He rose through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge and won the FA Youth Cup twice, the UEFA Youth League twice as well as representing England at all youth levels from U16 to U20.

He has never made a first-team appearances for the Blues but has gained plenty of senior football experience out on loan. Colkett has enjoyed loan stints at Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town and Vitesse so far in his career.

The youngster was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town in July but returned to Chelsea prematurely. He is now looking to go back out on loan this month.

Colkett would add some more youth and energy into Aston Villa’s ageing midfield and would be a good long-term signing should they include an to purchase him on a permanent deal.

However, he could be tempted by a move to Östersunds to play to potentially play in Europe so Villa will have to bat away competition from the Swedish side to sign him.
