Leeds United prodigy set for potential shock switch to Europa League side

According to Greek news outlet SNDA, young Leeds United defender Tom Pearce is on the radar of Greek Superleague Aris Thessaloniki.

The 21-year-old defender is a product of Leeds United’s academy and has impressed staff at the Yorkshire club since making his debut back in 2018. Since then the youngster has made 10 first-team appearances for the Whites, even scoring a goal in a league match against Barnsley.

After falling down the pecking order at Elland Road since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, the defender was sent on loan to League One strugglers Scunthorpe United for the second half of the 2018/19 season where he made nine appearances scoring a single goal, this time against Southend.

With Pearce unlikely to feature as a major part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans next season the 21-year-old is poised for yet another loan move, however, his destination looks set to be a surprising one.

Aris Thessaloniki are the Greek Superleague club interested in signing the young defender and would be able to offer Pearce the chance to feature in the Europa League after the club finished fifth in the Greek Superleague last season.

This move would be yet another case of young Championship stars moving abroad for first team football after young Stoke City defender Josh Tymon completed a year-long loan move to join Portuguese outfit Famalicao yesterday.

With other young academy stars such as Jack Clarke, Jamie Shackleton and Ryan Edmundson all starting to prove their worth, this move looks to be the perfect way to unlock Pearce’s obvious talent.
