Harrop Deal Set to Be Completed Tuesday
Monday, 18th Jan 2021 18:36

Preston attacking midfielder Josh Harrop is now expected to complete his loan move to the Blues on Tuesday.

TWTD revealed this morning that Harrop was set to travel to Portman Road today to finalise his switch, however, with the salary cap have added to the usual red tape relating to a move, the deal is now expected to be confirmed once the remaining loose ends are tied up tomorrow.

Harrop, who prefers to play as a number 10 but also operates wide on the left, joined Preston in June 2017 having come through the youth system at Manchester United, where he made one Premier League start for the Red Devils in a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace on the final day of 2016/17 and scored the opening goal.

The 25-year-old, who was the player assistant boss Stuart Taylor said the Blues were hoping to sign prior to the Swindon match, has made 39 starts and 55 sub appearances for Preston, scoring 13 times including a number of free-kicks.

However, this season Stockport-born Harrop has made only four starts, one in the Championship, and four appearances from the bench, scoring once. He was left out of the 20-man squad which lost 2-0 at Bristol City at the weekend.

Capped three times by England’s U20s, 5ft 9in tall Harrop signed a new contract at Deepdale which runs to 2023 in August.

At 25, Harrop counts as a senior player in terms of the salary cap with the club having a limit of 22 players aged over 21.

Good backup option, but Downes, Bish & Dozzell should be first choice. I've had it with loanees blocking our talented players' progression

Looks like we're going to have someone who can shoot from outside the box.

I've sussed it... Lambert intends us to line up 4 - 6 - 0 to really make a point

If we need players out to get new ones in I would be happy to see huws, Kenlock, Donacien go. And Hawkins or Drinan if we could get another decent striker or two. They will never score enough goals and as strikers that is what they are paid to do.

He likes to play as a number 10. So lambert will probably put him in as centre back

What injuries has he got?

If hes prepared to pass the ball forward its a start unfortunately this is not Lamberts game plan.

Loan with a view to a permanent move on the cards or are we just exercising him for Preston? Lambert readying himself for some summer midfield departures maybe?

So much negativity. Lambert has his style but it's clear he doesn't have the fit players for it to work at the moment. Perhaps Harrop is what he needs, an attacking midfielder who can transform the side? Or is a negative assumption all anyone can consider?

Will welcome the lad as/when but statistically speaking he doesnt score many goals. Unless he is an extremely creative player I fail to see how this is going to improve our goalscoring potential.

A goal threat is still down to getting more players forward/in the box/taking shots......or even putting another forward up front (shock, horror.....how could I suggest such a thing....blasphemy).

Just seems to me that Shambert is desperate to try and make his tactics work. But we arent Liverpool....who play with a definite 4-3-3 (three actual forwards)......and we arent Spurs.....that line up as a 4-3-3 and defend as a 4-5-1...before counter attacking at pace. We masquerade as a 4-3-3 but actually play 4-5-1, with a slow and predictable build up that allows opposition to jog back into position. We did change our style with a faster, more direct approach at the w/e......but it left Norwood chasing lost causes on his own

So welcome to Ipswich Josh.....with Lambert and his clueless tactics

Has to be a more attacking midfield threat than currently. Only Bishop has the forward drive. Dozzell plays good passes, but from so deep they're not usually the final ball we need. (I'd actually experiment with Dozzell on the wing, in a Beckham-type role, as his passing might be more of a threat). This new guy might make the difference "Judgey " patently hasn't in 2 years here.

Edmundo - Hope youre right about Harrop but he will need to do it himself (take the opposition on) as there as only one player in the box to aim for.

For me, the jury is out on Dozzell. He is a tidy passer and can spot a through ball......but he really hasnt contributed much this season. Doesnt score, cant tackle, gets booked frequently. He has only a few assists and, if he is in the team for his passing ability, then surely he needs players to aim for.

All comes down to the same thing for me.....Shambert

He looks a bit like Tom Lawrence, seems like he can score goals like Tom Lawrence let's hope he can be another success like him. Looks decent on the highlights of him👍

Will be a welcome addition.
I do wonder why all ITFC signings seem to take an extra day or so to be completed! I assume it's the fact Evans holds all the purse strings yet spends a lot of time out of UK?

I see this as a step to cover someone going. If you take a player on loan then you generally will play them at the expense of "one of our own" - I would guess there are bids in for some of our midfielders which the club expect to complete before the transfer window shuts

Assuming he goes straight into the team (why sign him if that's not the intention) I assume Judge will need to make way?

I think Harrop is a good signing however I wonder where he will play.
Presumably in the No.10 bet where does that leave Judge who generally plays no matter what form he shows. Then there is Nolan...
I assume this is why Lambert persists with the 4-5-1 (4-1-4-1) formation so that he can pick 5 of the many midfielders we have on the books

Another no. 10 , why? We have Judge and also it's Dozzells preferred position too isn't it? Another midfielder. Another player under 6ft. We need some big guys to get in amongst it, we are so lightweight. Anyway, Lambert will have him playing sideways and backwards before the month is out.

See the Lamberteers are on here....marking people down with the power of puerility. Makes you wonder if they have actually watched a game in the last 3 seasons or are they just that deluded.

Quick.......mark him down again.....he made a comment against
